You know your coach has integrity if they do this one thing…

There has been something that I have witnessed many women saying over the years of being a Personal Trainer and that is this idea that “ if I train/eat like her, then I will look like her”. Here is the cold, raw unfiltered truth that needs to be said. Even if you train and eat like her, you still are not going to look like her, simply because you are not her, you are YOU! And if your coach reminds you of this truth, then you know your coach has integrity, PERIOD. You have a completely different anatomical build, skeletal structure, metabolism, dieting history and genetic expression, and to blindly think that following a fitness influencer/trainer’s personal plan will guarantee that you will look like her is not only predatory, it’s objectively false.

It has saddened me to witness this in the gym so many times over my career, but I want to share with you how I navigate these tough conversations. I encourage my clients to shift their mindset and rather than wanting to look like “her” instead why don’t we double down on you becoming the best version of you in this season of your life? Why don’t we build you up and create some exciting goals that you can most definitely achieve.

Whether that is…

  • losing some 10-15 lbs of bodyfat

  • doing your first bodyweight pushup or chin up

  • adding shape to your glutes

  • hitting a personal best on your deadlift/squat/bench press

  • building some capped shoulders

  • getting out of chronic pain

All of these things can be feasible for you, we just have to first understand your baseline and then build a plan to get you there. Then we get to work with the effort, sprinkle in patience and let time do it’s thing.

Dwelling on the idea that you are going to look like someone else is similar to running fast on a hamster wheel. You are putting in this effort, but in reality, you are not moving forward. You are staying stuck, and then eventually you will burn out.

Let’s instead throw that whole idea out, and instead build a hell yes exciting vision for YOUR FITNESS. Something that will stretch you a little and force you to grow. So my question for you is, what vision of you do you hold for yourself in the next 6 months? Is changing the shape of your body? Is it getting stronger? Is it feeling more energized and confident? I would love to hear what’s brewing for you!
